STEAM Hydroponic Garden!
Our indoor hydroponic garden is up and running! All plants have been grown from seed. We have been transitioning our fragile starts grown in peat moss-filled grow trays to the pea gravel-filled netted cups in our hydroponic garden system, and then letting them flourish!
Indoor Hydroponic Garden Set-up!
Students constructing the structural rack system for our classroom's hydroponic garden. Students carefully transplanting our plant starts in netted cup in preparation to be moved to their new homes in the grow trays of the hydroponic garden.
Blueprinting & Budgeting!
Students creating scaled drawings of our hydroponic garden space to determine what type of hydroponic garden system our classroom could support, and determining the supplies and materials needed. Then, students calculating the cost of all the hydroponic set-up supplies needed.
Mini Hydro-planters
Students building miniature hydro-planters using 2L soda bottles to create grow trays and reservoirs. Students mixing plant medium and sowing vegetable and herb seeds.
First Planting!
Students planting Daffodil, Tulip, Crocus, and Grape Hyacinth bulbs! Students also preparing the soil by putting down compost. (Special thanks to Mrs. Riccardi and Jacavone Garden Center for their donations and expertise!)
>8 Seed Dissections 8<
Students learning the structures and functions of seeds through investigative dissections!
Rocking Out!
Students removing rocks from our garden space in preparation for rototilling the soil and winter composting!
Collaborative Learning @ work!
Students created cup structures using only a rubber-band tool and teamwork!
No hands could touch the cups!!
